Welcome to my site! My name is Kailee Smith. I am currently a 21-year old senior marketing major at Drake University. I am originally from Murrieta, California, which is a city about half way between San Diego and Los Angeles. I love to be involved in many clubs and activities. Two of my favorite activities to be involved in are: The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and being a member of the Drake University Softball team. I love promotions and plan on having a future career in event or wedding planning.
FCA is a club on campus that allows athletes to come together under the grace of God. This club has brought me many friends and has helped me through some of the most stressful and toughest times of college.
I committed to be a part of the Drake University Softball team my junior year of high school and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am a pitcher/utility player and have played a different position every season so far. Being a collegiate athlete is very time consuming and can be very hard, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences. The friendships I’ve made and the places I’ve traveled are memories that will stay with me forever.
As an athlete I have always been very involved in sports, specifically baseball. Being from Southern California, I had plenty of teams to choose from, but I was born and raised a Los Angeles Dodgers fan and have been a die-hard fan my entire life. With that being said, my favorite player is Matt Kemp who was traded from the Dodgers in 2014 to the San Diego Padres and then traded again to the Atlanta Braves in 2016.
Because of his trade to Atlanta, I decided to try my luck and apply for a promotions job with the Braves. Last summer, I spent 3 months in Atlanta working and learning the ins and outs of game promotions for the Braves, where I got to interact with players and fans during games, concerts and on off-days.
Due to my summer experience, I plan on moving from Des Moines to a bigger city such as New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Atlanta, Chicago, etc. after I graduate. My main goal is to have a career in event planning (for hotels, sports teams, etc) or wedding planning.
In the past, I have planned a few events. I planned the Drake University Athlete Olympics in which athletes participated in a series of events and donated money to Make-A-Wish foundation. I also planned the Drake University Athlete Pen Pals, where each athlete wrote letters to a student at an elementary school in California. Currently, I am a promotions intern for the Des Moines Radio Group where I work with on air talent and broadcast equipment and run social media accounts for the Drake Softball team.
